Here are some highlights from the 2010 Edinburgh 10k and the efforts of the celebrity and junior banana army runners that I filmed.
The Banana Army take part in events to raise money for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research. Named after their bright yellow shirts, the Banana Army is about having fun whilst also doing something extremely positive to help people with blood cancers. It doesn’t matter if you are new to the events or an experienced athlete – everyone is welcome! Become a Banana Army member and enter one of their many runs or triathlons. They’ll look after you and make sure you have a great time!
Celebrity supporters include members of the cast of Emmerdale, Coronation Street, The Bill, Holby Blue and other TV soaps.
My wife Kyrsta had the opportunity last year of going to South Africa from Oct - Dec 2009 to do voluntary physiotherapy. While I was out visiting her I was able to record some of her experiences. Here are some of the highlights of Kyrsta Macdonald-Scott’s adventures!
The majority of the footage focuses on her work at the Sunshine Centre in Soweto, a pre-school centre mostly for physically and mentally handicapped children.
Footage of Richard Ushe at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto, South Africa. The match was a local derby between the Kaiser Chiefs and the Orlando Pirates that finished 0-0.
At this time of year, pain, excitement and fund-raising is on every runner’s mind.
Here are some pictures I took at last year’s event with the Celebrity Leukaemia Runners who were running for the Banana Army. Support you favourite charity, come and support the runners and have fun.
Below is my interview with Shauna Macdonald talking about long distance running and the Banana Army.
Working as a catering runner on Neil Marshall’s latest feature film Centurion was intense and exhilirating. The weather was not always kind up in Aviemore and I needed all the thermals I could fit on. We used army vehicles to get to mountain tops and despite the cold, everyone appeared to enjoy filming in the location, especially Neil.
I recently worked on the current series of Britain’s Got Talent. I Filmed the preliminary rounds in Glasgow and Newcastle and was a runner for the second round in London.
Perhaps the biggest highlight was chaperoning the Scottish singing sensation Susan Boyle to her first televised audition:
I interviewed two neighbours from Portobello who, remarkably, were two of six people selected in a competition run by the Hopetoun Garden Centre. The six winners had their garden designs created and displayed in the centre. The gardens also featured on the Beechgrove Garden.
‘Midfield Maestro’ was shot on 35mm on the Isle of Barra and features the Glasgow band, There Will Be Fireworks. It was broadcast on BBC ALBA (Channel 168 on Sky/Channel 110 on Freesat) on Wednesday 4th Feb 2009 at 22:00 and repeated on Friday 6th Feb 2009 at 23:00. My role was as the grip and I felt we were quite inventive sometimes with our tracking shots in difficult terrain. The weather was amazing but I soon realised that not many people live here because the wildlife will soon eat you alive. The link below shows me pushing the dolly on the beach.
